For the second time in six months, the Mercer Island School District is responding to an allegation that it mishandled a sexual misconduct case involving a teacher. Investigate West reporter Moe K. Clark wrote both stories. She told KUOW’s Rob Wood about her reporting.

Mercer Island High School is facing multiple sex scandals leading to anger and frustration within the district.

The conversation about the agency’s handling of sexual misconduct and grooming allegations and licensure was sparked by a CapTimes report.

In a statement Thursday night, the Issaquah School District said it is “committed to student safety, well-being and maintaining a positive learning environment."

State lawmakers are seeking a legal opinion from Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul about whether allegations of public school teachers grooming students is punishable by an existing state law barring immoral conduct that endangers children's safety.
